It was amusing to see so many crooked buildings around in Amsterdam. Some of them seemed like they were falling onto the streets, haha. People build their houses so narrowly and protruding outwards because land taxes were based on the width of their houses. A rather shwerd way of saving money. Just like how the Dutch always are. Able to close three eyes about rule baending as long as it berings in money, That’s how you have all the famous “coffeshops” around that well weet/ mariwanna. That’s not my proudest find of the day though. I thought it was quite horrible to sell drugs (thought they are so called soft drugs). Was quite uncomfortable with all the kinds of smells around on the street. Either pee, smoke or some strange scent which i never smelt before. The fishtanks or rather the windows at the Red Light District were an eye opener, but then again, I think it’s really sad that it ended up as a tourist attraction. Either tourist seeking to see how they do it in Amsterdam, or tourist seeking to try out all these vices frowned upon at other places…

Day 77: Baking Tomatos

30 Oct, Fri

Cleared quite a bit of my food on that day cos I was going to Amsterdam for a few days. Forced myself to swallow my maize and tomatoes. Haha, there were like 6 tomatoes. Sliced them up and baked on top of white bread. It was yummyyy. Baked tomatoes taste really nice. No more charring. (:

I learned that trains are freaking long -.- We walked past about 10 carriages to get to ours at Kobenhavn H station -.- It was freaking far. I think we spent almost 10 minutes getting there -.-

Day 76: Busybody

Clever me cut myself while washing a fork that I didn’t use -.- The fork was freaking sharp. No idea how it poked into my index finger.

Had my second attempt at bread puddingz. Now with a more custardy and sinful -.- recipe. Estimated the tray size wrongly. Had to transfer to a smaller tray. Haha. But everything turned out yummy (: Better than the first try.

Going to amsterdam for a weekend trip on Friday night (: Bless me with more luck that I will be safe and in one piece like always.

Day 75: yummy meal –> stomachache

Was so happy that I got noodles in yummy soup filled with MSG goodness. Mami bought me that chicken mushroom flavoured mee. Was so excited to see OIL floating on the soup. Haha, cos when I was recuperating, didn’t had a drop of oil. Always boiled vegetables with rice. I gobbled my noodles and the rest of my dinner down super quickly.

look at the oil! (:

was super happy and satisfied (: until my stomach ached -.-

Day 74: Botak

Botak: [Malay/Singlish] baldness

No, not me. But the trees. Didnt manage to capture a picture of the almost bare tree outside my place. It’s so sad ): winter’s coming.

Anyways, I realised a sad fact of living in cold places. You actually need to spend more effort on keeping yourself alive than in tropical places. Well, in Singapore, I just had to make sure that I eat properly and regularly. Over here, every time before you leave a building, you have to make sure you are well wrapped else you will die in the cold. Okay, not to the extend of dying but you increase your chances of dying. It’s not that easy to die of heat stroke in Singapore. But it’s quite easy to get GGed in the coldness here. These days I can’t spend more than 30 min outdoors. Would just be out to kill myself.

Speaking of botak, I want Botak Jones ): Not that i’ve eaten alot of Botak Jones. Just miss food at a kopitiam.

Day 73: Back to school

Although school started a week ago for me, I didn’t study at all /: I was still sleeping shit lots, watching tv, chilling out. Finally got to start do my readings properly (: So happy I completed ICC readings for Tuesday. :D

And to quote Shannon, it was my “last lonely dinner” (: Friends are back (More like, Jessica the cook is back)

Day 72: Humanity

There is so much more in life than what we see. Do you know how many stateless people are wondering in the waters of Cambodia, Thailand and many more countries, waiting from dawn to dusk, hoping that their fathers or husbands manage to catch some fish home to feed the family? Do you know how many children live in inaccessible mountainous areas, are so keen to learn but don’t have proper materials and teachers? Do you know how lucky you are to have a complete family, a nice warm shelter for all your life, when there are people who come from broken families and never got to build their own happy one too?  Yet everyday, we don’t seem to appreciate the hot meals our mothers prepare for us, our parents constant nagging for us to sleep early, play less computer… Why is it that we kids, humans, instead of viewing it as them expressing love in their own way, think they mistreat us and dislike them?

However, amidst all the tough challenges that come by, there are always people standing strong and resilient. I cannot imagine how Derrick, from the 3rd episode of “P.S. I’m sorry” encouraged himself for 4, 5 years to keep going, pick up skills and do well in work to prove to his father that he has changed and is no longer the old him who doesn’t give know his priorities. And it was so touching to see how Alex Lim, in the 2nd episode, really bucked up when his principal gave him the last chance to prove himself after he was sent to the Boy’s Home.  With only 3 months to prepare for N levels then, he topped the school at the exam. He just received the Stars of Shine award from MCYS and is active in working with teens, sharing his life story.

So many people, struggle so much to survive, to become a better person. They meet with obstacles, lack of opportunities. And when they finally realise the better route to take, they didn’t let anything stop them. They grow to be persons with remarkable spirit. But why, why is it that there is just as many people doing the reverse? Not valuing all that they have. Escape from all their responsibilities. Choosing to do the wrong things. Letting their loved ones down. And not respecting themselves. Why do they end up enjoying sinful indulgence, or doing foolish irrational things? Why can’t they exert more control over their principles, their values? And hold true to what they care and believe in? Do they even know what they really care and hold close to their hearts?

I guess I’m so right. This is a test. Such a real test.

Day 71: This is spades right?

Tried making bread pudding today! :D Went to AmagerCentret Fotex to get the ingredients. Was pretty fun looking for a preferred recipe online cos there were dozens and tarzens of them, all different styles. Got mine at myrecipes.com. pretty interesting website, can save the recipes you like. tasted cool (: not yummy enough tho ): could have been sweeter and more fragrant. thought it tasted quite plain towards the end. maybe some syrup could have saved that.

“This is spades right?” – classic line by wei jian after he just won the bid for spades in our bridge game.

Day 70: Horrible dinner

manycolours Comments Off

Had this damn horrible dinner just now ): Cos I substituted potatoes with Jerusalem artichoke roots. It’s damn GG. I bought them by accident cos i thought they were ginger. -.- searched online, and read the they can be cooked like potatoes, fry, boil steam. except that they are sweeter and crunchier than potatoes. i was like okay cool, so it should taste better.

Hell, no. It tasted horrible in my soup… there’s this bitter taste -.- Spoiled my soup… Made me add so much sugar and salt. And it ended up freaking horrigle. I’m gonna give away that bag of Jerusalem artichoke roots / Jokeskokker to others. No way am I finishing that. Yuck >.<

Day 69: Pressing the lift

manycolours Comments Off

22 oct, Thurs

Noticed that people here don’t bother to press the close button of the lift doors. What happens in the lift is that everyone enters, then we just wait for 5 seconds for the lift door to be closed by itself. In Singapore, we spend all our lives, pressing for the lift doors to be opened, then press the close button immediately when everyone is on board. We even press it twice or repeatedly when we are frustrated that the door closes to slowly.
